Join our rescheduled 'free to explore' Heritage Open Days guided tour programme - this tour explores Sudbury’s legends and literary connections: from Dickens, Dragons to Dalmatians!
Led by expert Blue Badge guide, Claire Partner, who will bring the streets of Sudbury to life with tales of Sudbury’s legends and literary connections: from Dickens, Dragons to Dalmatians!
Along the way hear how Sudbury has appeared in works by such famous authors as Charles Dickens and Dodie Smith. See where the young Dickens was inspired by the “Rotten Borough” of Sudbury, and discover where the dalmatians in Dodie Smith’s well-known book stopped to have a drink. En route we will even unearth a few legends including one about dragons...
En route we'll also discover:
- Where John Bunyan may have preached in the town
- The site where the distinctive Times Cryptic Crossword puzzle was created
- How Daniel Defoe described Sudbury
- How the Sudbury silk industry appears in fiction today!
