COME AND BE PART OF ST PETER’S JOURNEY!

Pop into St Peter’s and share your stories and memories with us.

We’re looking for hidden histories from St Peter’s and Sudbury’s past, that you the community can tell us about, and that we can weave into our future storytelling in St Peter’s.  Stories we might have missed, from it’s very beginnings, through word of mouth, right up to living memory.   Bring photographs and memorabilia and our project team will be on hand to take scans (with your permission) and listen to your tales.

Good Times – The time that the Reverend accidentally married a young woman to her brother in law rather than the groom! Did you get married in St Peter’s, or maybe your parents or grandparents did?   What were the town’s major celebrations over time? Bell ringing festivals, Sudbury Festival  of Performing Arts… we want to hear about them all.

Bad Times – We know about the Reverend that had to oversee the funeral of his own daughter in St Peter’s, but do you have personal memories of being at a funeral in St Peter’s?  What did the women do during the World Wars when the men were away?

Music Making – have you been part of St Peter’s rich musical heritage – from community choirs, to orchestras, bands and festivals?

Building and Creating – Wool, Silk, Elizabeth de Burgh and the making of Market Hill, the River Stour and it’s industrial connections, poppies, community stitchers and weavers.

Hear all about the regeneration project and opportunities for volunteering while we are closed;  from Fabulous Fact-Finders to help us to gather and research stories, and Curious Creatives to help record this momentous time of change, and help co-produce things like new textile banners for St Peter’s.

The lovely folk from the Bridge Project will be running a pop up cafe on the day – we’d love to see you there!
