A concert of seventeenth-century music exploring the striking combination of bass voice, solo violin and continuo. It features three virtuoso motets, ‘Mein herz ist bereit’ and ‘Salve coelestis pater’ by the north German composers Nicolaus Bruhns and Franz Tunder, and a superb setting of the psalm Nisi Dominus by Heinrich Biber. Stuart O’Hara also sings solos by Schütz and Purcell, while Asuka Sumi plays solo violin music by Heinrich Schmelzer and Thomas Baltzar, as well as Biber’s extraordinary Sonata ‘Representativa Avium’, in which various birds, a frog and cat are heard, as well as an imitation of a military fife and drum.

A one-hour concert, socially distanced and conforming to government guidelines. Allocated seating limited to 70 – prior booking strongly advised.
