Art in the making: be a part of it

Have you ever visited a gallery, looked at the finished artwork and wondered what it looked like during the creative process, wondered how long it took, what needed to be tweaked and if it turned out how the artist initially visioned it?

Now you can find all of this out for yourself at Mill Tye Gallery, where textile artist Helena Powell, has set up her own weaving studio for the Summer. Following previous exhibitions of her textile artwork at the gallery, Helena now has a residency there until 23rd August, and invites you to come and see her in action.

Not only can you visit Helena, see her creative ideas unfolding, see looms in motion and ask her about her weaving, you can also add a row or two to the community weaving project and be part of a really unique piece of art, which once complete, will be sold in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance, meaning everyone who takes part doesn't only contribute to the art, but also to this worthy cause. Your one visit, your few moments adding rows, your short visit to the studio contributes to something much bigger, artwork created by a community, a multitude of hands and creative minds.

Visitors to the studio are also able to explore Helena's collection of handwoven scarves and textile art. Helena takes her inspiration from the colours, textures and beauty of the Suffolk landscape around her and this can really be seen in these unique pieces.

So, come and visit Helena at Mill Tye Gallery before the 23rd August, explore the studio, be a part of the community project, learn more about weaving and maybe even fall in love with one of her artworks or scarves to take home yourself.
